Using the map

This tutorial explains how to use the map to see where households, beneficiaries, complaints and services are across the territory.

Opening the map​

  1. In the menu, click Reports → GIS Map.
  2. A full-screen globe opens, with counters by region, sector and locality.
  3. Click Detailed map to open the working map.

On the globe, drag to rotate, use the mouse wheel to zoom and click a point to see its details.

Step 1: Discover the detailed map​

The Layers button shows or hides the panel.

Changing the base map​

Four base maps are available: OpenStreetMap, Satellite, Terrain and an offline base map of Guinea-Bissau.

Step 3: Show layers​

In MAP LAYERS, tick the layers to show, for example:

You only see the layers and data allowed by your role and scope.

Step 4: Inspect a point​

  1. Click a point on the map.
  2. A window shows its information. For a household: region, sector, locality, area type, size and PMT score, with a link to the record.
  3. Click View details to open the record.

Step 5: Filter by area​

In GEOGRAPHIC FILTERS:

  1. Choose a region, then sectors and localities.
  2. The map recentres and only shows the chosen area.
  3. Click Clear to return to the whole territory.

The Distance to school and Distance to health centre filters isolate localities far from services.

Step 6: Export and print​

  • GeoJSON: downloads the displayed points with their coordinates, for mapping software.
  • Open table: shows the localities as a table.
  • Print map: generates a PDF. Enter the title, notes, paper size and orientation, then the layers for the legend. Tick Show sector statistics to add a sector table. Click Generate PDF.

Practical cases​

Checking coverage in a sector​

  1. Filter on the sector.
  2. Turn on the Households and Beneficiaries layers.
  3. Compare their distribution.

Preparing a community meeting​

  1. Filter on the meeting area.
  2. Turn on the useful layers.
  3. Print the map with a title and notes.

Asking the assistant​

Click PCH GIS Assistant, then ask for example "Show the households of Farim on the map". The points appear directly.
